COOL BOSTON KICKS BUNBURY CAMPAIGN IN RIGHT DIRECTION
A nervy performance this afternoon has given Bunbury & Districts (2) real momentum on the Alcohol Think Again Junior Country Week table, after a fifty-nine run win over Eastern Goldfields Junior Cricket Association at Fletcher Park. Eastern Goldfields’ captain Jace Reilly won the toss and elected to bat, with his call seeing his side under pressure with opening pair Brennan Luttig and Jayden Robinson putting on (5) runs for the first wicket.
Bunbury Spearhead Jesse Heywood made the initial breakthrough after having Robinson caught for (5) whilst Adam Prowse & Callan Hay battled hard with two wickets each, which included the dangerous scalp of Reilly (7) who was bowled by Prowse. Eastern Goldfields finished their innings with a disappointing total of 108 with Angus Leaver (26) the only standout whilst Jesse Heywood was the pick of the bowlers for Bunbury with 2-3 from four overs.
In reply Bunbury got off to a disastrous start losing Adam Prowse, Cain Kelly and Jack Kettle cheaply to slump to 3-24 with Eastern Goldfields quick Angus Leaver doing the early damage. A posse of two wicket-takers combined to scare the Bunbury top order with the next three batsmen falling for 25 runs. Callan Hay (10), Connor Hawkins (9), and Rory Devaney (0) were dismissed before Declan Boston rescued his side with a classy (57no) which secured the win. Angus Leaver lead the Eastern Goldfields attack with 3-9 from his seven overs.
A relieved Bunbury side out for 167 after being challenged by a plucky Eastern Goldfields outfit. Bunbury & Districts will meet West Pilbara Junior Cricket Association on day three of the carnival whilst Eastern Goldfields will play Esperance.
