Day 5 Results

Day 5 of the championships and the men were back with the One-Day matches beginning and women’s T20 matches continuing. The heat did not deter the teams, with more standout performances and classic matches on show.

Women’s

Round 4 & 5

South Australia took on Northern Territory, winning the toss and electing to bat first. Perry continued her strong form by hitting 71 including 12 fours. Fiebig also contributed heavily with 55* not out off 28 balls to steer SA to a total of 3/187. In reply the South Australians didn’t allow NT to gather the momentum and partnerships required to chase the total down, restricting them to 7/59. NT will take a lot out of competing against quality sides, with a young squad looking to learn and become more knowledgeable about the game which is invaluable experience.

In a battle for top spot on the ladder, New South Wales and Victoria played under lights at Wonthella, in a display of fantastic talent and exciting cricket in front of a enthusiastic crowd. NSW batted first, making 8/109 with McDonald top scoring with 31 and Townsend the pick of the Victorian bowlers with 3/10. In reply, Victoria never gave up and at the 11th over mark still needed a further 50 runs with 7 wickets remaining.

Captain Chelsea Moscript anchored the innings and had to maintain her wicket for the remaining overs to give Victoria a chance of victory. Moscript and Parker’s partnership carried on into the last over and by gradually scraping away at the total required 8 off the final over for victory. After managing to get 3 singles of the first 3 balls, Moscript was able to edge one down to 3rd man for 4 which meant they required 1 run off the final 2 balls for victory, with the single being taken on the next ball to get a dramatic victory for Victoria. An amazing match and a big congratulations to both teams and coaches Neil McDonald and Keith Jantz for putting on a spectacle!

Men’s

Round 6

Queensland took on South Australia to commence the one day competition of this year’s championships. QLD batted first and made 9/143 with Stranger scoring 40 and Lowry 37, Nottle finishing with 3/23 and Golder 2/24. In reply SA chased the score down with 1 wicket in hand, Parish making 41 and Roach finishing with figures of 4/12.

East-Asia Pacific defeated this year’s T20 champions New South Wales by compiling a big first innings total of 250 and setting New South Wales a challenging total to chase. Bau (47), Kipling (47) and Nipiko (37) were the highlights for EAP with the runs being spread all throughout the order, Ziebell 2/14, Price 2/27 and Keen 2/40 were the best bowlers for NSW. In reply, NSW were all out for 192 with Price and Fenning both scoring 32 while Nipiko was the pick of the bowlers for EAP with 4/29 to get the win.
